As most restaurant owners know by now, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 requires most businesses to provide employees with health care options. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, one major restaurant chain is estimating that this added cost won’t be so much! Initially, Wendy’s had estimated an additional cost of $25,000 per year per location. However, new numbers indicate that it will likely be a fifth of that – $5,000 per location. Wendy’s expects most of their employees to decline their health care options, which would be a big relief for restaurants everywhere.
This is great news, especially for restaurants with 20 or more locations. Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, restaurants with over 20 locations are also required to have posted calorie information and other nutrition information available upon request.
