Other characters in the book include Harry’s best friend, a young boy named Will Smith, and an evil wizard who intends to turn the villagers into stone toads. Harry means well, but he always manages to make the villagers angry. After he uproots the mayor’s apple tree while picking flowers, Harry finds himself banished from the village. Wiping away his tears, Harry went home and packed.

Says Coville, “But then I got to thinking about it, and I wondered if kids would like ‘Homework’ better. So I tried it out in schools when I was visiting. I would have kids vote on the titles. ” 67 Aliens Ate My Homework was followed by three more space adventures featuring Rod Allbright. They include I Left My Sneakers in Dimension X, The Search for Snout, and Aliens Stole My Body. In 1992, Coville wrote Space Brat, launching a third series about adventures of young people in space. The series, which includes five books, tells the story of a young inhabitant of the planet Splat named Blork.

I’m very proud of that book, but it was also very hard to write. The first draft of My Teacher Is an Alien took me only two weeks. It took six months to write My Teacher Flunked the Planet. 63 Some of Coville’s readers believe he tends to give teachers a rough time in his books. After all, in My Teacher Is an Alien, the villain is a teacher. But Coville, a former teacher himself, says that if readers think about what he’s written, they’ll see his books actually support teachers.
