Some Restaurant Customers May Prefer Smaller Portions on Menu
With the new menu labeling laws in effect, some people are questioning whether it will really make an impact on obesity. Obviously, this is not “the answer” but one of many efforts to give consumers a choice. And there is encouraging news for restaurants! A recent study in the Journal of Health Affairs stated that up to 33% of consumers at a fast-food Chinese restaurant actually opted for smaller portions – even if there was no discount! The study focus on starchy side dishes rather than main dishes, but their overall calories were reduced by an average of 200 calories. That’s not bad! While these people may not be shedding pounds right and left, it does show that menu labeling can help consumers make a more informed decision.
